Coaches

Head Coach Dan Morse


A native of Rhode Island Dan swam competitively with the Kent county YMCA and Bishop Hendricken high school before finishing his swimming career as a four year athlete and captain at Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire. As a coach he most recently worked in Germany with the OneFlow Aquatics top team and junior top team. With the team he assisted in preparing athletes for the 2021 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympic cycles, as well as coaching at multiple World and European Championships. In addition he served as Head Coach for a German national champion as well as junior national medalists. In the U.S., he coached the Sedona Swordfish, Sedona Masters, and Sedona Red Rock High School, earning recognition as Arizona Interscholastic Athletics Coach of the Year in 2018. Earlier in his career with the Carson Tigersharks, he guided athletes to standout performances at the Junior Olympics, Far Westerns, and state championships. At the collegiate level, he served as Assistant Coach at Keene State College, where he helped recruit and develop NCAA Division III All-Americans. His open water coaching includes training a World Junior Championships medalist and supporting athletes at international World Cup events with Greenwood Swimming. Dan is known for his athlete-centered approach, technical expertise, and proven success at every level of the sport. Outside of the pool Dan enjoys a number of outdoor activities such as ultimate frisbee, snowboarding and hiking. 


Assistant Coach Tim Manley


Tim is originally from Indiana where he graduated from Indiana University. Tim has coached for over 25 years in Indiana, Oregon and Arizona. He has coached athletes from beginner to JR and SR National levels. He believes in creating a positive environment to improve performance and develop skills in and out of the pool. In his free time he plays competitive shuffle board and enjoys DIY projects around the house including using his tractor. Tim is married with 2 boys and 1 grandson.


Team Director Scott Newell


Scott has been a part of the Anthem community for nearly 15 years and helping or coaching on a pool deck for almost 30 years. Scott graduated from Arizona State and started in Anthem as the Head Swim Coach before taking over all Aquatics programs and now is the Director of all programs for Anthem including the community center and all the amenities. His coaching highlights include getting to coach Dozens of collegiate athletes including his own kids here in Anthem - 3 of which swam in college. Many awards including the 2016 coach of the year and representing the state as a coach rep and attending national level coach trainings through USA Swimming. Scott and his wife Cari have 6 kids - all of them swimmers or swammers, 2 grand kids and 3 dogs, who will occasionally help out at Saturday practices.
